Homework Policy

  1. Students are expected to bring in their homework fully completed and on time each day. Late work is accepted, but affects a student's grade in the "Traits of Successful Learners" category;  I will not mark late work as such if a prior request has been made by student, for a valid reason.
  2. Excused absences enable students to complete missed homework "late", by the number of days absent.
  3. Name must appear on work for full credit - credit is used to determine the grade for "Traits of a successful Learner"; students have been instructed on the "Proper Paper Heading" format for my class.
  4. Weekly Reflection, written by student, will be sent home in Panther Folders.
  5. If a student is unable to complete assignments after 45-60 minutes, a note from the parent will help me understand how to assist.

TESTS & QUIZZES

  1. Students will be notified of tests in advance.
  2. Quizzes and Exit Tickets can be scheduled or given as “pop” quizzes, when needed.
  3. Students talking or cheating during a quiz or test receive a consequence, as per school rules.

GRADING POLICY

1. This year we are adopting a standards based grading policy.

6. Progress reports will be sent out 3 times throughout the year, or as needed.

7. Teacher uses a variety of assessment techniques: teacher observation, student self assessment, rubrics, tests, quizzes, writing (formal and informal), standards' checklist

Parent-Teacher Communication

If you have any concerns or questions about your child or about anything that is happening in the classroom, please email me to talk, or to schedule an appointment. I will not pick up external 'phone calls during the school day, as I will be teaching. If you call, please do so between 3pm and 4pm.

If I have overlooked the specific learning needs of your child, I would like to know, so that I can help him/her achieve the most he/she can this year. I am always keen to maintain open communications with my students and their families. My main objective is that all my students should achieve success in social skills and academics, and have met or exceeded standards. This can only happen with a three-way partnership of student, parent, and teacher.
